Alright so number 1. Sonic in ssbu is not Canon. Everyone knows that the character and be great at something or be downright horrendous at something assuming the writers want to. But that theory is just gonna go at the trash can and we’ll say ssbu was not Canon to anything and everything.
Number 2. He needed to save picachu. He needed to slow himself down so he can get pickachu’s hand and run off but it was too late so he can’t save his cute little creature pal and when he was caught Sonic was also caught. Sonic needs to have momentum to accelerate to super high speeds.
Alright so number 3. Now, if Regardless of whether Sonic just went mftl+ he would’ve been caught in the explosion of the planet exploding so he truly didn’t have an opportunity to do anything unless if perhaps Kirby gave him a ride and took off.
